Black History Month

February is Black History Month. We want to share the origin of this holiday as well as a great book to check out in honor of this month.

The Origin of Black History Month

“Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.”

The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr.

“Using Stanford University's voluminous collection of archival material, including previously unpublished writings, interviews, recordings, and correspondence, King scholar Clayborne Carson has constructed a remarkable first-person account of Dr. King's extraordinary life.”

Upcoming Holidays

We are located right on the water, with a beautiful patio, ready for you to soak up the sunshine.”

Movie Suggestions

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built

Check out Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built this month on Friday, February 2. "On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Helen Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven days a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters." Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built is a great weekend movie to see. Buy your tickets online today!

Black Panther

Do you have any weekend plans yet? We suggesting going to your local theater and checking out Black Panther. It comes out in theaters on Friday, February 16. "T'Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.
